About unemployment insurance
The Danish unemployment insurance system is a voluntary insurance scheme. This means that you are not automatically insured against unemployment when working in Denmark.
If you want to be covered by unemployment insurance in Denmark, you have to join a Danish unemployment insurance fund, also known as an 'a-kasse'. These are private associations. When you have joined an unemployment insurance fund, you must pay contributions to the fund in order to be covered by unemployment insurance in Denmark.
Members of BUPL-A
BUPL-A is an unemployment insurance fund (a-kasse). But BUPL-A only admit members according to the following:
- Individuals who have completed an education as a pedagogue or an equivalent qualification.
- Individuals employed in positions covered by collective agreements and agreements entered into by BUPL (Danish Union of Early Childhood and Youth Educators).
- Individuals engaged in pedagogical work within the scope of BUPL and whose work area is not subject to another negotiating organization.
- Students in the pedagogical education program.
